SSAB - Oxelösund
SSAB Oxelösund AB, develops manufactures and markets heavy
plate.
The plant of Oxelösund is located on the Baltic coast 110 km south of
Stockholm and is a subsidiary of SSAB Svenskt Stål.
It is a full integrated steel works producing around 1.6 million tones
of steel slabs each year.
High grade iron ore from Swedish mines ensures that we create the best
conditions for the production of clean steel with low levels of
inclusions and impurities.
The mill includes a coking plant, blast furnaces, LD-furnace, continuous
casting, four high rolling mill, direct cooling, roller quenching and
heat treatment facilities all of which give us complete control of the
production process. These efforts have been matched by our Quality
Assurance System which meets the toughest international standards
including ISO 9001 and AQAP-1.
The new four high is the most modern and powerful mill in the world,
with a rolling force of 10.000 tonnes, which enables the production of
plates with improved properties and tolerances.
After heating to around 900oC, the plate is quenched to room temperature
in our roller quenching equipment.

ARMOX
ARMOX armour plate has been used in many military and civilian
applications throughout the world.
The plates are manufactured in thicknesses from 3 to 150 mm and in
hardnesses up to 600 HB.
Further details on the different steel grades, weldability and
fabrication are provided in special data sheets and brochures.
HARDOX
The sides and bottom of a concrete mixer are subjected to sliding wear.
However, the wear applied to the bottom is at a higher pressure.
Even if the wear is relatively moderate, the useful life is important to
the economics. In this case, HARDOX 400 has proved to be the most
appropriate material.
For the best possible useful life, HARDOX 500 is used for the bottom of
the mixer.

Toolox 44 unique on
the market |
Toolox 33 superb
advantage |
The development of
Toolox 44 is based on our other well-known products HARDOX and
WELDOX. The flexibility of Toolox 44 opens up new perspectives to
applications such as plastic moulding dies, swaging tools, wear
mouldings, sheet metal press dies, and is excellent for long
production runs and more complicated products with stringent quality
requirements.
Toolox 44 permits new, modern processes to be used for manufacturing
tools. The higher machining costs are more than balanced by the
guaranteed shorter manufacturing times, more consistent and stable
material characteristics. In addition, a number of risk factors are
abolished from the manufacturing process, such as the complete
elimination of the risk of failure due to the hardening process. |
Lower
hardness makes Toolox 33 extremely easy to machine, and cutting
speeds can be increased by 20-25% compared with traditional tool
steel, W.nr. 1.2312.
Combined with unique shape stability, this makes Toolox 33 an
unassailable step ahead as a tool steel. |

• TOOLOX 44 tool steel
is pre-hardened at 45 HRC
and has excellent toughness.
• High metallurgical purity and well-developed
casting technology result in an extremely
homogeneous material with good thermal
conductivity. The steel is superb for deep etching
and polishing.
• TOOLOX 44 has good stability, machining and
welding properties.
• TOOLOX 44 is an ideal substrate for surface
treatments such as nitriding and PVD. |
• TOOLOX 33 tool
steel has the same hardness (300
HBW) as W.nr. 1.2311/1.2312/1.2738,
P20, but is much tougher.
• TOOLOX 33 is a homogeneous tool steel with a
low alloy content, annealed at a minimum of
600oC, resulting in excellent stability and
significantly improved machining properties.
• TOOLOX 33 has high purity, making it superb for
etching, spark eroding and welding. It is also
easy to polish.

Toolox patent granted
The patent applies to the combination of steel chemistry and
manufacturing process. Toolox is a more highly developed steel, which
means that we deliver ready-made physical properties. This is a
fundamental difference, compared with traditional steels, which are
generally delivered with just a chemical specification. We measure and
guarantee the hardness of the steel, its toughness, machining
characteristics and homogeneity in its fully heat-treated state.
